Spend the day on the water
Both Union Reservoir and Mcintosh Lake are great for paddle boarding, fishing and picnicking.
Union requires paying for access while Mcintosh is free to access. Their kayak and paddle board rental office is open reliably during the summer.
Mcintosh also includes a 3.5 mile dirt and concrete track around the lake with beautiful views of the mountains and is the home to wildlife. It is not uncommon to see bald eagles and osprey fishing. On the weekends there is sometimes a guy renting paddle boards.

While you can’t go on the water, there is a loop around the 14 acer pond. There are often an abundance of wildlife including water birds, raptors, and song birds.

This handicap accessible area includes 2.6 miles of mainly dirt trails. The man made lates are square but the area is very beautiful and is next to the St. Vrain River. The trail network is next to Rodger’s Grove Park and connects to the 18 mile St. Vrain Greenway Trail if the 2.6 miles isn’t enough.

This nature area is further than many of the other options but it is a great place for a longer hike. There are countless trails branching from the main trail so there is lots to explore. Additionally, back country fishing is good but requires a permit.
